Counseling For Gay and Lesbian Addicts
Spencer's Options drug treatment centers offer counseling for gay men and women who suffer from alcohol and drug abuse, counseling is a beneficial part of treatment plans for people dealing with sexuality and drug addiction issues. Options offers counseling which helps people understand drug recovery from a gay perspective. Alcoholism and drug addiction are extremely powerful problems that clients have to deal with, however, if clients do not feel comfortable or safe discussing their issues, then they are unable to get to the core of their problems. Because counseling requires absolute honesty, gay counseling provides a safe environment in which all issues can be shared openly. Some people are uneasy about sharing in straight counseling sessions in concern to issues of sexuality and sexual encounters in relation to drugs and alcohol.
Options treatment center for GLTB is apart of Spencer Recovery Center. Options clients will be provided transportation to outside GLTB Twelve Step meetings including AA NA and CMA. The Options clients will also have a group therapy session with the other GLTB clients.
Individualized Needs
At Options addiction treatment centers we know that there is no one way to addiction recovery, but that each person has individual issues to deal with. By offering counseling as a special accommodation to the gay community, Rainbow hopes to break away from standardized, ineffective drug treatment and cater to the individual’s needs. We believe that through having meetings, drug counseling and individualized drug treatment facilities, addiction recovery can be more comfortable for our gay clients. Our alcohol and drug treatment programs not only addresses drug addiction but also take into consideration the whole person we are treating. Because drinking and using drugs are often associated with promiscuity leading to HIV/AIDS, and are also often symptoms to greater underlying problems, counseling is essential to the recovery process.
Drug and Alcohol Addiction is a Disease
Drug and alcohol addiction are diseases that are best treated with recovery care and abstinence. These diseases are progressive, and while on drugs or alcohol people often lose good judgment and decision-making skills. Unsafe sex is closely associated with drug and alcohol abuse and also with the gay community. At Options we are aware of these concerns and have medical specialists who are able to assess HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases. Gay counseling is also useful in helping people deal with these infectious diseases or dealing with a loved one who has a disease.
